Shillong: A day after the chief ministers of Assam and Meghalaya started talks on resolving border dispute, a conglomeration of organisations, teams, and native residents from border areas held a sit-in demonstration in Shillong on Monday.
The organisations that participated within the demonstration included the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo Individuals (FKJGP), Affiliation for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE), Achik Youth Welfare Organisation (AYWO), Federation for Achik Freedom (FAF), and the Niksamso Garo Group Organisation (NGCO).
The demonstration was held to pressurise the state authorities to both scrap or assessment the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the 2 governments on March 29, 2022.

Airing her feeling of betrayal, Lalita Marak, a resident of Malangkona, stated she refuses to be a citizen of Assam and desires to stay in Meghalaya. Marak stated a majority of the residents of Malangkona are Garo. She alleged that the consent of the bulk has not been taken and the MoU has been signed with out the settlement of individuals from border areas.
She added that she and different residents from Malangkona would combat towards the choice.
President of FKJGP (Garo Hills Zone), Pritam Arengh, stated that his group will take authorized motion since an injustice to the individuals has been carried out.
He added that historic info, ethnicity, administrative comfort, geographical continuity, and consent of the individuals weren’t considered.
ADE President Dalseng Momin said that his organisation is not going to settle for the MoU and can proceed to agitate towards it.
