Manipur all set to host Durand Cup

Manipur is all set to host 10 historic league matches of the 131st Durand Cup, Asia’s oldest soccer event at Khuman Lampak important stadium in Imphal from August 18 to September 5.

The primary league match of the first-ever Manipur version of the tourney will probably be performed out between two large golf equipment of Manipur- North-Jap Re-organising Cultural Affiliation (NEROCA) FC and  Tiddim Highway Athletic Union (TRAU) FC at 6pm on Thursday.

Union Defence minister, Rajnath Singh, together with the Chief of Military Employees, Common Manoj Pande will probably be arriving Imphal on Thursday to attend the opening match of the event together with the chief minister N Biren Singh, a former Durand Cup footballer turned politician.

Earlier, Biren Singh accompanied by minister Govindas Konthoujam and common officer commanding 57th Mountain Division, main common Navin Sachdeva, inspected the preparation at Khuman Lampak important stadium.

In the meantime, a protracted queue was seen in entrance of the Khuman Lampak ticket counter with soccer followers jostling to purchase tickets for the opening match.

It could be famous that the 131st version of Durand Cup will probably be performed at 5 venues – Khuman Lampak Stadium (Imphal), Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium (Guwahati), Naihati Stadium (Naihati), Kishore Bharati Krirangan and Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Kolkata).

Altogether 20 groups, together with defending champions FC Goa and runners-up Mohammedan Sporting, 11 groups from the Indian Tremendous League, 4 Providers groups, NEROA FC, TRAU FC, SUDEVA FC of Delhi and Rajasthan United FC will play on this version of the Durand Cup.
